Sicevo gorge (Sićevačka klisura )
Sićevo gorge (Sićevačka klisura ) is located very near from Niš, on about 14 kilometer. Parallel with river Nišava and Sićevo gorge (Sićevačka klisura ) there is important road connecting Serbia and Bulgaria. And also railroad too.
A lot of caves are located in this gorge. Archeological and speleological excavations are constant here.So, in 2008. there is important finding of jawbone. It dates about half a millennium, and is presumed to be of Homo erectus. Rarities of this territory are one of the last pairs of golden eagle (Aquilla chrysaetos) nests. Much as well as one of the largest owl in the world, the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo). And also few more flora and fauna species. All that made it Special nature reserve form year 2000.
What to see in Sićevo gorge (Sićevačka klisura )
In Gorge you can find monastery of Holy Mother of God, that dates from 17th century. In the middle of the forest, on 771 meters above sea level. Especially relevant thing to see here is Hydro power plant St.Petka. It dates from 1908. it is in that time plant with most production of electricity in Serbia. It was very important as was Hydro power plant in Vučije.
Sićevo gorge (Sićevačka klisura ) is small but very important in cultural sense too. Because, Art colony is held here. Oldest in Serbia and former Yugoslavia. The Art colony dates from 1908. and it is named after famous Serbian painter Nadežda Petrović.
